    With extreme cryotherapy (here carbon dioxide = -78 degrees C/50 bars) it takes just a  few seconds to get the 'nerve-kick' from the skin to the central nervous system without cooling the inner tissues, whereas ice slowly chills also the deeper tissues and can cause spasms with the risk of muscle damage in labour.
